Contacts for System Administrators
|
This page contains a number of email addresses and WWW contact points.
These are used to register various entities and perform various
kinds of administrative tasks related to the Rutgers network. These
addresses are intended for system administrators who do these requests
often enough that they are willing to learn OIT internal structure.
Otherwise, you may always contact the help desk for your
campus.
If you're sending email from outside Rutgers,
add .rutgers.edu to the end of the host names.

abuse@rutgers.edu -
to report attacks from Rutgers hosts. This is the best
place to notify of any security or abuse issues that are likely
to require either action from OIT or involvement by someone at
the University level. Abuse from individual systems can also be
reported to the system manager of that system, typically root or
postmaster.
account-support@nsmx - for issues involving creation of accounts. There are two kinds of issues with the account creation software: problems with the software itself, and database problems. If you are unable to create an account for a specific person, but the software is generally working, this is a database problem. (That is, the entry for that person is wrong.) Account-support is for that. If the software is not working, or one of the servers on which is running seems to be down, see rats_support@email. These two groups are for system administrators and help desk staff. Users who are unable to create an account should contact the help desk on their campus. bootp You should now be using DHCP. See that entry. computer_repair@email - to contact the computer repair/installation group DHCP Many departments run their own DHCP services. However OIT can provide DHCP support, using a distributed set of Network Service Systems, located throughout the University. DHCP data can be maintained by hostmaster@tdmx, or by departmental staff directly, through the online system available at https://www.td.rutgers.edu/netdb/. safeword-support@tdmx - to allocate or register an Safeword (formerly Enigma Logic) one-time password card for use with OIT systems. (To perform the same function with LCSR systems, contact enigma-admin@klinzhai) If you need an immediate response, and have not gotten response from an email message, please contact the New Brunswick operations at 732-445-2293 and ask them to page Safeword support. help - a number of groups maintain help desks. For the campus divisions (NB, Newark, Camden) the contact is help@NAME, where NAME is one of the 6 major systems: andromeda, clam, crab, eden, pegausus, rci. These contacts are responsible for determining the proper group within OIT to handle a question, and pursuing it on your behalf. There are also specialized help contacts for Telecommunications (help@td), administrative computing (help@acs) and networking in the residence halls (help@resnet). hostmaster@tdmx - to allocate IP addresses or network numbers on the Rutgers network. You should never make up an address or network number for yourself. Doing so can cause serious problems. See https://www.td.rutgers.edu/netdb/ for more information about this service. It is possible to delegate responsibility for IP address and hostname allocation to departmental staff. kerberos-support@tdmx - for Kerberos administrative functions, including generation of v5srvtab entries for new machines and manual changes in the Kerberos database. Problems with Kerberos should be directed to the TD help desk, help@td or 445-0327. (For LCSR Kerberos servers, use kerberos-admin@klinzhai.) |
network issues - Problems with the network and modems should go to noc@rutgers.edu or 445-0327. radius-support@tdmx - For setup and configuration requests, such as creating or changing keys. Problems with the Radius service should go to the TD help desk, help@td or 445-0327. rats_support@email - for support of the account creation software (which is called RATS) There are two kinds of issues with the account creation software: problems with the software itself, and database problems. If you are unable to create an account for a specific person, but the software is generally working, this is a database problem. (That is, the entry for that person is wrong.) See account-support for that. If the software is not working, or one of the servers on which is running seems to be down, use rats_support. If you need an immediate response, and have not gotten response from an email message, please contact the New Brunswick operations at 732-445-2293 and ask them to page RATS support. resnet (networking in residence halls) For problem with network service in the residence halls (dorms), please use help@resnet or call 445-HELP. |
